Chasing Daylight Book Discussion
“You were born to live a great adventure; You were created with a divine destiny; You are called to fulfill a great mission. You were designed for a unique purpose. Now you are called to live it out.” – Erwin McManus in “Chasing Daylight”

I imagine that everyone has a book that has made a significant impact in their life and everyone wants you to read the book that has shaped them. Yet, the theme of THE BOOK, God’s Word, is filled with accounts of people attempting the impossible and watching God accomplish what only He can do. That’s what you will find in 1 Samuel 14:1-23 in one account of a man named Jonathan.
In the following weeks, you are invited to come together in a conversation of experiences and how we play a role in God’s story. That is the essence of the Bible. It is an incredible document that records all types of people young and old who find their role in an epic where God is the main character and we are invited to share in a part of history. His story.
We will cover one chapter at a time in a book by Erwin McManus and you are more than welcome to be a part of this journey and conversation. We have just a few copies left, but you can find the book in paperback titled “Chasing Daylight” or in hardback under the title “Seizing Your Divine Moment.” You will find some thoughts and questions posted here that may provoke some dialogue, but feel free to share your reflections, scriptural insights, and personal experiences that come to mind as we read together. If you join the reading and conversation after we begin, just jump in with us anyway. I’m sure it will be well worth it.
Well, let’s get started.

No time to read, not even one chapter?
How many of you, would like to find a few extra minutes in your day? Maybe you’ve talked about reading or praying a little more and would even like to begin and end the day with some time with God. Before you realize though, the day is in full swing and by the time you catch your breath, you are exhausted and ready to crash. Where do you find the time to slow down and squeeze everything in? Believe me, you’re not alone.
However, if you think about it, I’m sure there are plenty of things you make time to do. It could be breakfast, an afternoon nap, homework, (well, maybe not all of it) or time with a close friend or boyfriend/girlfriend. Recently, I’ve realized that my time on the computer has turned into a plenty consistent habit. Through repetition, I’ve disciplined myself (yeah) to wake up and begin most days with some time on the internet, checking my emails, and an update of the latest news.
So if you can relate in some way, together we will be exploring the book of Psalms. One Psalm a day. Each day you will find brief portion of scripture that expresses a wide range of emotions, concerns, experiences, and questions of honest individuals. The writings are raw, honest, and unedited. You may be amazed to discover what you read. Some days will reveal moments of celebration, joy, while others express anger, frustration, and doubt.
They will not take much time to read and if you would like to start, feel free to join right in. Feel like expressing a comment on what you have read, this is an opportunity for you to share your thoughts with others who are on a journey like yourself. You may also find it helpful to record your reflections in a notebook or journal and even write your own Psalm for the day. If you would express yourself in that moment, raw and honest, how would it read? You may be amazed at the similarities between the Psalms you read and those you write yourself.
So, why not give it a try? Will it take a little practice? Sure. What if you miss a day? No problem, jump back into the dialogue and exploration with us. It may take a little time to develop this discipline, but it’s definitely possible and it’s worth it. So, let’s journey together and see where it leads us.
